Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews

The 5th Kate Daniels novel is as good as the first.  I really, REALLY love this series.  Kate's foster daughter, Julie, runs away from school.  Meanwhile, Kate is hired by the Red Guard to find a missing scientist and his creation, rumored to be quite bad.  Kate learns more about herself and her family and a group of non-magical fanatics decide to kill hundreds of people just to remove magic from the world.  The author has an interesting dialog between Kate and another character about the reasons people kill and why would they be so heartless about killing hundreds of innocents just to achieve their goals.  The ending thought is that humans basically are greedy and are motivated by selfish desires more often than not.  In some ways, her novels make the monsters more 'humane' than the humans in their desires to save others and do good.
